Bread Pakoda

Bread Pakodas are great as an appetizer, finger food for any type of the gathering, and a tasty compliment for your afternoon tea. There are two ways to make this one with the potatoes stuffing and without stuffing.



Recipe: Bread Pakoda
Type: Appetizer
Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Total time: 30 mins
Serves: 4-5 people

Ingredients:
  • Bread slices - 7 ( brown bread/ white bread/ wheat flour bread)
Batter:
  • Gram flour(besan)- 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 2 tbsp
  • Carom seeds - 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/3 tsp
  • Water - 3/4 cup approximately 
  • Salt to taste
Potato stuffing:
  • Mashed boiled potatoes - 3 medium
  • Coriander leaves-1/3 cup
  • Red chili powder - 1 Tsp
  • Asafoetida(Hing)-1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/3 tsp
  • Amchur powder - 1 Tsp
  • Salt to taste 
  • Cooking oil for frying
Note:
  • While preparing the batter to make sure the batter is neither thick nor watery.
  • Instead of rice flour, you can also use sooji to make Wada crispy.
  • You can also add paneer slices in between the sandwich. 
Preparation:
  • In a mixing bowl mix the Batter ingredients one by one to form the batter. You can change the quantity of spice as per your taste.                                                                                                  
  • Then in another bowl mix the ingredients required for potato stuffing.
  • Take 2 bread and sandwich the stuffing in between them.Then cut them into triangles. repeat this for all other slices of bread.
  • Start heating the oil in a pan or wok. 
  • Dip each triangle in the batter and see that it is evenly coated.
  • Gently lower it in the hot oil for frying. You can add as many bread pieces as can fit in your pan.
  • Fry the bread pakoras in medium hot oil and flip them a couple of times until they are crisp and golden.
  • Remove with a perforated spoon onto paper towels to drain as much oil as possible.
  • Serve these bread pakoras hot with tomato ketchup or mint chutney or sweet Tamarind chutney.
